Welcome to the World of
Gordon Jack Bennett!

GO TO THE |
Please feel free to roam through my life – both past and present. Here you will find a variety of zones that reflect some of my interests and provide an opportunity for you to participate in those topics that may be of particular appeal to you.
Each of the zones is self-sufficient and I hope that you will wish to regularly visit those topics that are most relevant to you. Each zone will have its own discussion area or message board where you may introduce your own views and comments.
Additionally, some of the zones may contain mini-zones - to reflect a more specialized topic within the boundaries of the main zone.
Please remember that contents of zones will change frequently. The main purpose of each zone, however, is to provide a forum for like-minded people to discuss and develop the various topics.
Please feel free to let me know of anything within the zones which concerns you or should you have any suggestions for improvement. Remember that you can always email me with general comments or by simply following the 'mailto' link. Better still – why not share your suggestions or comments by posting in the appropriate discussion area on the message board.
The discussion area that you can reach through the link on this page is concerned with general issues relating to the pages as a whole; within each of the zones (or mini-zones) you will find a specialised discussion area that relates to the zone’s particular topic.
Above all, please enjoy!
The Original 'Gordon Bennett' Zone
Who was the original 'Gordon Bennett'? Here in the UK the phrase ‘Gordon Bennett’ is used as an expletive. Find out about the original 'Gordon Bennett' and share any information that you may have about this fascinating character.
This zone will be of particular interest to any other ‘Gordon Bennetts' out there; to those who are curious about the origins of historical slang; to any motor racing, sailing or flying enthusiasts; to those with an interest in journalism; or to any of you who who simply have a fascination for originality and exceptional eccentricity!
In this zone you may meet my family as well as many of my personal friends – present and past. Here I hope to develop extensive galleries and anecdotal material that may embarrass (though this is not my intention) and the zone as a whole will be of interest particularly to those who have had the misfortune to know me.
Please remember that usually this zone relates to my friends and family who may not readily fit into any of the other zones so if you can’t find yourself in this zone it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve escaped! It may well be that you feature in one or more of the other areas in this site.
Although I was brought up in a relatively ‘orthodox’ environment I can hardly consider myself to be a practising member of the Jewish faith. However, some aspects of my religion became more important to me later in adulthood and particularly following my marriage and during the period that we were bringing up our own two children.
As a child I happily attended a Jewish primary school and was, I believe, a keen participant in the religious and social activities at our synagogue and in the wider Jewish community. More recently I have renewed my involvement in Judaism and am currently a member of two synagogues in the Merseyside area. Both of my daughters attend a Jewish school and it gives me considerable pleasure to watch them develop in the same sort of environment in which I was reared.
I am hoping that this zone will be of interest not only to Jewish visitors but also to those who wish to learn a little about the meaning of Judaism and its colourful and various social and religious festivals and general way of life.
Hammersmith is a suburb of London, England, and is situated about five miles to the west of the capital. It was here that I spent my formative years and, although I no longer have family living in Hammersmith, it will always be home to me.
I have dedicated this zone – somewhat nostalgically I’m afraid – to Hammersmith and I feel that it will be of interest to those who live or used to live in the area.
Lots and lots of memories!
